2020 Lesson #8 Light

We had a fun lesson on light! Most of our light comes from the sun. Light travels in waves. The waves are part of the Electromagnetic spectrum. We can only see a very small section of the spectrum called the Visible Light Spectrum. Light travels in a straight line. When light waves pass through glass or water they are bent or 'refracted'.

2020 Lesson #7 Engineering

What is STEM? The STEM acronym stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. In class we discussed how we need skills in these four areas to solve problems in our daily lives.

We focused our discussion on engineering and the types of engineers. We talked about creating a plan and working with a team to build something that solves a problem.

For our experiment we engineered a maze for Hexbugs with straws, toilet paper rolls, popsicle sticks, and tape. The goal was to create a path that would get the Hexbug from one end of the table to the other end. The Hexbug is a tiny, collectible, micro-robotic creature that uses the physics of vibration to propel forward and explore its environment.
